ROMANS IN RAVENGLASS ~ professional archaeologists, supported by local volunteers, have been investigating the vicus (civilian settlement) in the fields near the Roman fort and bath house.  This is where off-duty soldiers came to find food, drink, pleasant company and craftsmen who could make or repair their equipment.  The archaeologists have found evidence of occupation from the 2nd to the 4th centuries AD and some post-Roman activities.  People and trade goods came to Ravenglass from as far away as Spain and the Middle East.  Find out more about the discoveries at http://ravenglassromans.blogspot.co.uk/
